Place KOALA on your camera and go! Your tracking is ready to use with virtual productions.
WHAT IS KOALA?
KOALA represents a true innovation in the world of broadcast and virtual production. This unique inertial tracking system stands out for its ability to simplify and improve production operations.
KOALA firmly attaches to the camera and becomes its ally, moving with it and providing precise real-time tracking information.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
KOALA ‘senses’ the movements of the camera and sends the PAN, TILT, and ROLL data. If you use the CRANE option, you will also get the XYZ position of the camera.
Along with this data, it captures ZOOM and FOCUS information from the Virtual connector on broadcast lenses or through external encoders in other cases.
Style
-
LENS
Get ZOOM and FOCUS data from high resolution encoders or direct connection from VIRTUAL output of your lens (Canon or Fuji). -
HEAD
Mount KOALA on the camera placed on a tripod, and you’ll instantly get PAN, TILT, and ROLL data. -
CRANE
Add KOALA Crane option and you will also have the XYZ position of your camera mounted on a crane.
Why use KOALA?
-
Simple and Fast
Quick and hassle-free setup. No need to equip the floor or ceiling, and no receivers are required in the studio. There’s no need to calibrate the environment. Everything is manageable through a simple web interface, with no additional software or complex settings. -
Small and lightweight
Truly small, fits in the palm of your hand, does not interfere with camera movements, and adds almost no weight: a significant advantage for crane use.
Perfect for being carried even in hand luggage. -
Reliable and affordable
Free from external light interference, works in any lighting condition, indoor&outdoor, even while covered in the rain.
No dedicated hardware required and compatible with existing equipment.
Smart Functions
-
CLEAR DISPLAY
Enables real-time monitoring of tracking data, offsets, Ethernet parameters, and reset operations.
-
HOTSPOT
For quick on-site configurations.
AUTOLEVEL
Automatically adjusts leveling after installation is completed.
OTA UPDATE
Continuous improvements through online updates.
Where to use?
-
On Existing Tripods or CraneEquips without the need to purchase dedicated hardware.
-
Avoid complex solutionsNo need for PTZ with tracking, preserving traditional camera fluidity.
-
Difficult environmentsEnvironments where Optical Markers or Vision Systems are not feasible: ideal for theaters, squares, stadiums, or large and complex TV studios.
-
Multi-Camera Productions or backupProvides tracking for “secondary” cameras in an XR setup with reduced time and cost. Or as a backup.

FAQ
Q There is an hourglass symbol on the display. What does it represent?
It means that the initial ‘warm-up’ phase is not yet complete. KOALA must be turned ON while ensuring it remains perfectly still. Wait for 3 minutes during the initial warm-up phase to allow the inertial systems to stabilize properly. Once the ‘warm-up’ phase is complete, the hourglass disappears, and KOALA can be moved. However, we recommend waiting 10-15 minutes if you want to achieve optimal performance.
Alternatively, manually start the STABILIZATION procedure or perform a reboot.
Q I have connected everything, but I see that the tracking data is not being generated.
If you see the data changing on the INFO > DATA screen but it is not reaching the workstation, it is likely a network configuration issue. Check the destination IP and port if it’s an Ethernet connection, or verify the serial parameters as indicated in the manual.
If the data does not change even on the INFO > DATA screen, it means the SYNC signal is missing. You can temporarily try setting a manual data rate in the web interface, but in a broadcast environment, it is absolutely necessary to use the SYNC signal (Genlock PAL or NTSC).
Q I moved KOALA, and now the virtual scene is not leveled in TILT and ROLL.
You need to redo the AUTOLEVEL procedure. If you are using KOALA on a tripod, level the tripod, the head, and the camera, then start the AUTOLEVEL function. If KOALA is mounted on a crane, everything must be aligned starting from the tripod, the crane support, the crane, the head support, the head, and the camera. Once everything is leveled, start the AUTOLEVEL function.
AUTOLEVEL needs to be redone if KOALA or the KOALA CRANE option is moved or reassembled.
Q I disconnected and reattached the crane option while it was powered on. Could this cause any issues?
Yes, it is possible that the option was not stationary while being reconnected and during the following 3 minutes required for initial stabilization. In this case, drifts in the camera’s XYZ position may occur. It is necessary to power OFF and ON the system and wait for the ‘warm-up’ phase to complete while keeping everything perfectly still.
Q Do I have the option to view an event LOG?
Yes, on the webpage there is a section on the right side that lists the event log.
