The LTS-50 is an LTO-5/LTFS-based media archiving server. Reading and writing of files on LTO tape is possible via FTP from Windows or OS X computers. An ideal small-scale archiving and backup solution.
LTS-50 deployment in a network environment dramatically streamlines workflows that involve backup, archiving, or repurposing of material.

The LTS-50 functions as an FTP server on the network, enabling Windows or OS X users to read or write any files on the unit's LTO cartridge directly via FTP. Back up project files, archive video files, or perform other tasks without file type or format restrictions.
The LTS-50 excels in video archiving applications. Video files in standard MXF formats (such as MPEG-2, DVCPRO, or AVC-Intra) can be tagged before archiving, enabling LTR-100HS/120HS compatibility when stored on LTO tape. Thumbnails and proxy videos can be generated automatically from the MXF files being archived, using optional software. And with a new "partial retrieve" feature, individual MXF files on the LTO cartridge can be retrieved for use as separate MXF files.
Archiving equipment that relies on databases or other internal file information tends to lock users into particular systems and limit LTO cartridge portability, making the system less versatile. In contrast, the LTS-50 maintains flexibility by recording all data, including metadata, to the LTO cartridge.* This avoids system lock-in and simplifies data transfer in asset management and other applications. *Requires activation of the metadata function before backup/archiving of generic files.
LTO cartridges in LTFS format can be duplicated. Optional software and an additional, external LTO drive enable high-speed copying between LTO cartridges. Complete or partial copying of the data on cartridges is supported.
Enables these operations from a computer: Browsing lists of MXF files on an LTO cartridge, with thumbnails and metadata. Windows and OS X versions available. Extra features: Metadata searching, Adding/removing MXF files, Viewing/editing metadata, Proxy playback, Partial retrieval
An option for expanded functionality with MPEG-2 based MXF files. Supported file formats: MXF (OP-1a) MPEG-2 I-GOP/Long GOP (SMPTE ST 386, RDD 9) Extra features: Generation of thumbnail and proxy file (H.264 or WMV), Partial retrieval
An option for expanded functionality with AVC-Intra/DVCPRO based MXF files. Supported file formats: MXF (OP-Atom, OP-1a) DVCPRO 25/50/HD, AVC-Intra 50/100 Extra features: Generation of thumbnail and proxy file (H.264 or WMV), Partial retrieval (OP-1a/OP-Atom output), OP-Atom to OP-1a conversion
Duplication of LTO tapes in LTFS format, using the built-in drive and an external drive. Note: Requires an external drive (sold separately).

An abbreviation of Linear Tape File System, LTFS is an open-source file system for use in Linear Tape-Open (LTO) archiving as originally developed by IBM. LTFS enables reading/writing of files from various vendors or systems on LTO tape. After announcing the world's first product incorporating LTFS?the LTR-100HS video archiving recorder?For-A has continued to build expertise in this field.
