WNET.ORG selects FOR-A HD switcher for new HD facility

CYPRESS, CA, February 9, 2009 - An HVS-1500HS switcher made by FOR-A Corporation of America, has been installed in the production and broadcast studios of WNET.ORG in New York City. The parent company of public television stations Thirteen and WLIW21, WNET.ORG is also the parent of Creative News Group, producers of "Worldfocus," the new international newscast that airs weekdays on public television stations nationwide.

WNET.ORG purchased the FOR-A HVS-1500HS switcher through system integrator Diversified Systems as part of a new facility built for production of "Worldfocus." Anchored by veteran journalist Martin Savidge, formerly of CNN and NBC, "Worldfocus" is distributed in SD but will be offered to PBS member stations in HD in Spring 2009.

According to WNET Chief Engineer Frank Graybill, the HVS-1500HS has proven a solid choice for the new facility. "We're very pleased with the switcher," he said. "It is a robust, feature-rich component of our production. While 'Worldfocus' is a show that is produced and edited offline, we have the ability to go live if we wish."

The HVS-1500HS lends itself to a variety of live productions and studio applications. It features three types of control panels: 16-button, 24-button, and rack mountable 12-button versions. It offers a high-performance DVE capable of real 3D DVE effects with polygonal-based effects where video is literally wrapped around 3D shapes. The HVS-1500HS can also accommodate an optional two quad split-screen function. Optional color correction functions can be applied to the primary inputs and keyers, as well as optional process control, gamma corrections, and various clip functions.
