CAHUENGA RUE PRODUCTIONS SELECTS FOR-A SWITCHER FOR ROD STEWART'S 2007 WORLD TOUR HANABI HVS-3800HS CHOSEN FOR ITS POWER, COMPACT DESIGN AND RELIABILITY

June 12, 2007

STUDIO CITY, CA, June 12, 2007 - Cahuenga Rue Productions, the concert production company handling famed rocker Rod Stewart's 2007 World Tour, has selected the HVS-3800HS from the FOR-A line of SD/HD Hanabi switchers. The HVS-3800HS is being used during the show for image magnification onto four Barco projection screens and to record the show for archive purposes. The HVS-3800HS supports standard definition and high definition formats, including variations of 1080i and 720P.

When Cahuenga Rue Productions owner and chief engineer, John Basile, was searching for a switcher to take on this tour, he looked for a compact, rugged 2 M/E switcher with 16 inputs and easy operation that was also affordable. This show uses five manned Sony cameras, two Sony robotic cameras and a Doremi HD disk recorder/player.

"The 10 aux outs are quite handy. We send a lot of feeds to monitors under the stage, plasma monitors around it, and the main program goes out goes to the projectors," explained Basile. The HVS-3800HS switcher has 16 standard inputs and can be optionally configured with up to 28 inputs. Basile said the show also uses the switcher's still store feature. Up to four still images can be loaded from the built-in Compact flash card reader and used as additional inputs.

The unit's compact size also factored into the decision to go with the HVS-3800HS. "I was looking for a compact, powerful switcher that would travel well," continued Basile. The HVS-3800HS has a compact 4RU frame size, making it particularly ideal for mobile production. Tour video director, Charlie Harris says he's impressed by what such a small unit can do: "It's a little box, but it does exactly what you need it to do. Size really doesn't matter with this switcher. It's a powerful little unit."

The constant packing and unpacking that goes along with live event production meant durability was key. The HVS-3800HS has already been subjected to some harsh travel conditions since Stewart's tour began earlier this year. Traveling to more than two dozen cities in the United States and Canada, the switcher endured extreme outdoor temperatures during transport, such as a trip to Buffalo New York, where the mercury dropped to minus 27 degrees Fahrenheit.

Harris called the system "completely road-worthy." Basile agreed, "So far, every show has been very successful. It's worked perfectly in all kinds of weather."

The tour continues throughout North America until the end of this month. It will then travel to Europe for six weeks and after a short break, head to Australia and New Zealand.
