POSTWORKS, NEW YORK SELECTS FOR-A HANABI 1M/E SWITCHER FOR FIRST DIGITAL INTERMEDIATE THEATER IN EAST COAST

Multi-Format Capability, Compact Size, Internal DVE, Ease of Use and Cost Efficiency Place Switcher in Class by Itself

Nov 8th, 2004

NEW YORK, NEW YORK, November 8, 2004 - PostWorks, New York selected FOR-As new one mix/effect HANABI HVS-1000HS digital switcher for its recently opened digital intermediate (DI) theater. The DI theater officially opened in October and has already completed digital mastering for several commercial and long-form television and feature film projects. It is the first theater on the east coast designed specifically for DI mastering.

Digital intermediate is the replacement of films final optical processing with a digital master. Color correction, titles, and visual effects can be pre-visualized in real-time and changed instantly. A finished 2K master can be output to film or any format in multiple resolutions, frame-rates and aspect ratios.

The HANABI switcher is a critical part of PostWorks ground-breaking DI theater. The HANABI supports 1080I/59.94, 1080P/23.98, 720P/59.94, among other major HD as well as SD formats. At a compact 2RU and cost-efficient price point, the SD/HD switchable, multi-bit, multi-format HANABI is ideal for post-production applications. And an internal DVE card comes pre-installed.

"The reason why we went with this particular solution for our DI Theater is because of its compact size and power, explained Bertrand Hilaire, Chief Engineer, PostWorks, New York. It's one little switcher that has a very small, 2RU footprint in our machine room, and it's capable of doing both standard definition and all the flavors of high-definition that we currently do.FOR-A's clearly not just TBC's anymore."

Baldwin also pointed to the range of HD formats supported as a reason for HANABIs selection: We live in a multi-format world. With the advent of HD, there are now more formats than ever. We create multiple deliverables from this one room. Its essential that our switcher support as many bit-rates and formats as HANABI does.

Hilaire noted the cost point of the switcher and the lack of training required for his staff to get up to speed. Post production facilities need to be able to hit a certain price point, and FOR-A has placed the 1 M/E HANABI within a unique range in the industry, stated Hilaire. Our staff was able to start working on the switcher immediately. We just flipped the switch and went to work.

PostWorks DI theatre also includes a Spirit DataCine for high resolution film scanning; a Pandora MegaDEF Evolution controller, PiXi color processing engine, Revolution software; Quantel IQ renderer; Discreet Inferno and Flame visual effects systems; and DaVinci 2K color corrector.
